"Eh?"
The girl looked over to her companion, a male friend of hers, in a surprised manner. Her partner was smiling a bit, embarrassed at what he said previously. The boy took a breath and sighed, attempting to relieve his nervousness. The girl wanted to clutch her chest as if it were in pain; she felt betrayed. She looked down slowly, her eyes partly shutting.
"Is that so?" she responded, "so little Ryoji got down on his knees and proposed to his girlfriend?"
Gathering her strength she struck Ryoji's back, causing him to fall. The girl smiled wryly, while he looked back with frustration.
"Make sure you don't make her cry…" she muttered, as Ryoji stood up to dust himself off.
He glanced at her for a moment, before responding, "that's pretty hard to do since she's a cry baby."
"It's your fault for falling in love with a fragile girl," she retorted, pausing to laugh at him.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Ryoji snarled, a scowl forming on his face.  The girl became silent.
"Well, I might as well get it out of my system," she spoke softly, before she turned to look at Ryoji, "I love you."
His eyes widened in surprise at the sudden confession, before an uneasy smile crept onto his face.
"Julia, don't joke with me like that," he answered, trying to make light of the scene.
"It's not a joke," Julia quickly pleaded, "I'm serious."
Ryoji grew quiet before responding, "Julia… Why didn't you tell me?"
Julia looked away; she knew he was going to ask her that. She gazed up at the withered blossom nearby, before answering, "Because I was scared to damage our relationship. I didn't want our friendship to end over a failed confession, or on an awkward note."
'Julia, I—'
"That's enough, geez," she interrupted, her voice shaking, "I've had enough of you. Your kindness is killing me."
She looked at him, her eyes staring at him with . The boy stood there, in shock. She smiled to him, her eyes reflecting an emptiness within her.
"This will be our last meeting," she mumbled in despair, "So, with that take good care of her, Ryoji."
Julia strode past him, patting his shoulder gently. Ryoji could only stand there in silence, expressionless, as she walked out of sight.
Just a small short story to vent out my feelings.
None of this is true.
